HbbTV updates spec with DVB-I and voice assistants integration

The HbbTV Association has published the latest version of its core specification, taking in voice assistants, accessibility features and the new DVB-I standard.

The three main highlights of the new version are the integration with voice assistants, with accessibility features (such dialogue enhancement or user interface magnification), and with the new DVB-I standard. The latter enables HbbTV ‘red button’ applications to be used with live/ linear TV services received as a DVB-I stream via broadband networks. Their availability depends on the TV set or set-top box supporting the underlying feature. DVB-I is complementary to conventional DVB broadcasts, including cable satellite and terrestrial, as well as DVB-DASH streaming, providing service information describing the availability of services within a service offering that can use any of these modes of delivery.
